New Student Housing - Quickly on the Rise
Grand View's new student apartments, under construction along East 14th Street, can be seen from almost anywhere on campus due to the building's sheer size. The new residence, already nicknamed the "L" apartments because of its shape, will house 232 students and is set to open in August, just in time for the fall 2011 semester. After falling a month behind due to a rainy summer and fall, workers have made up for lost time. They continue efforts on the entire building, but with an urgent focus on completing the roof in order to finish indoor construction during the winter months.

Student Profile: Marissa Miller
A Grimes, Iowa, native who is a junior majoring in graphic design, Marissa Miller originally chose GV because of its size. She toured campus and loved the people, discovering that the members of the GV community cared about her and her success. Since that first campus tour, Miller has become an active student-athlete, participating in cross country, track and field, Campus Fellowship, Art Club, View Crew, Residence Hall Association and intramural sports. "I have met so many people by being involved on campus. Whether it's clubs and organizations, athletics, or leadership, I encourage campus involvement to everyone!" Miller said. When asked what she values and which skills she'll carry with her after graduation, Miller hesitated, trying to describe her thoughts briefly. "This is an extremely hard question," she said, but narrowed her answer to two main points: "Roadblocks are essential to life, and it takes strength, courage and time to overcome them. And someone once told me that the relationships you develop now [during college] will be the ones you cherish for the rest of your life. When I graduate, I'll miss all the great advice I was given and the relationships I've developed with the staff and fellow students." Miller is looking forward to graduating in April 2012, getting a job, entering the real world and developing many new relationships.
